Flat and EPDM roofing

Low-slope and flat roofs cannot be shingled — they need a membrane. EPDM is a rubber membrane made for exactly that.

Why a flat roof is a different job

A shingle roof works because water runs off it quickly. On a flat or low-slope roof water sits and drains slowly, so the surface has to be genuinely watertight rather than water-shedding. That means a continuous membrane, sealed at every seam, edge and penetration.

Where flat roofing shows up on a house

  • Additions and extensions with a low-slope roof
  • Porch, garage and carport roofs
  • Dormer tops and small sections between pitched slopes
  • Flat sections over a deck or walkout

EPDM membrane

EPDM is a rubber membrane laid as a continuous sheet, which keeps the number of seams low. Its edges, drains and any penetrations through it are the details that decide whether it stays dry — that is where the work is.
